Many core art terms that help artists understand how to create and analyse artwork start with F, some of our favourites here at Artfirst Australia include:

Fauvism – An early 20th-century art movement known for bold, expressive color (led by Henri Matisse).

Flat colour – Areas of solid, unshaded colour, used in design and illustration.

Focal point – The part of an artwork that first draws the viewer’s eye.

Folk art – Traditional, community-based art often rooted in cultural heritage.

Foreground – The part of a composition that appears closest to the viewer.

Foreshortening – A drawing technique that creates the illusion of depth and perspective.

Form – One of the elements of art; refers to 3D objects or the illusion of three-dimensionality in 2D work.

These terms are essential for composition, perspective, and design understanding.
