What is Australian contemporary art?
The contemporary art movement started somewhere in the early 1960’s up until 1980. The art historians continue to debate the meaning of contemporary art and the sub-movements of ‘what is produced today’. It is contemporary or ‘of our time’. It covers the various art mediums like painting, sculpture, photography, installation art, performance and video art.
Australian art is rich. Our country may be young but our art history extends back thousands of years through Aboriginal art.
